Urea, also known as Nitrogen (N) fertilizer, has a Nitrogen content of 46%. Urea is produced from a chemical reaction between Ammonia (NH3) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2), resulting in solid urea in prill form (size 1-3.35 mm) or granule form (2-4.75 mm). Prill urea is mostly used by food crops and industry sector, while granular urea is more suitable in plantation and industry sector. Non-subsidized ureas, colored in white, are marketed and sold under the trademark Daun Buah, while subsidized urea, colored in pink, are specially marketed under the trademark Pupuk Indonesia Holding Company.

Ammonia is used as a raw material in various processes in the chemical industry. Pupuk Kaltim’s Ammonia product is marketed in liquid form at a temperature of -33° C, with a minimum impurity of 99.5% and maximum water impurity at 0.5%. Ammonia is made from the reaction of natural gas with air and water vapor, processed in high temperature and pressure in stages throughout a number of catalyzed reactors.


There are two types of NPK fertilizer produced by Pupuk Kaltim, namely NPK Blending and NPK Fusion. NPK can be produced in various compositions, according to the needs of the plant and soil type. This type of fertilizer consists of three macronutrients needed by plants. The raw materials for NPK are urea, DAP (Diammonium Phosphate)/RP (Rock Phosphate), MOP (Potassium Chloride), and other macronutrients that are of high quality. NPK Fertilizer is marketed and sold under the brand name NPK Phonska Pupuk Indonesia Holding Company for subsidized sector, and NPK Pelangi and Pelangi Agro for nonsubsidized sector.

    Ecofert is organic fertilizer produced by Pupuk Kaltim which can increase the availability of N and P nutrient content, stimulate plant growth, increase soil nutrient absorption, and to improve fertilization efficiency in which saving NPK fertilizer up to 25% of the standard dose of 20-40 kg/ha within soil cultivating process. 

    Ecofert contains active ingredients namely Bacillus Subtilis, B. Flexus, Pseudomonas Mendocina, and Aspergillus Niger. Ecofert is in the form of granules with a variation of 1 kg, 5 kg, and 20 kg.


  • Biotara

    Biotara is a bio-fertilizer that is adaptive to acidic swamp soil and can increase crop productivity and the sustainability of land resources. Biotara contains active ingredients of Trichoderma sp., Bacillus sp., and Azospirillum sp. Biotara is in the form of black powder and is marketed in packages of 2.5kg and 12.5kg.

    Several advantages of using Biotara are increasing the efficiency of N and P fertilization, saving NPK fertilization up to 25% of standard swamp land doses, decomposing organic remnants, reducing environmental pollution, and increasing rice yields in swamp soil by applying Biotara in the dose of 25 kg/ha in cultivating process.

  • Biodex

    Aside from Ecofert and Biotara, Pupuk Kaltim also produces a composting activator under the Biodex trademark, which enables to accelerate the composting process with an active ingredient of the prime mushrooms. Biodex is a bio-activator for degrading organic matter. The Biodex Bio-decomposer formula is made using superior microbial active ingredients isolated from various sources of materials containing high lignin and cellulose e.g. Trichoderma polysporum, T. viride, and Fomitopsis meliae.


    Powdered biodex is blackish-brown in color and is currently sold in packs of 1 kg, 2.5 kg, 5 kg, and 10 kg. Biodex has several advantages, including suitable for solid organic waste, no need for additional nutrients, no need for reversal, and is suitable for tropical regions by using the dose of 2.5-5 kg/ton organic component.
